Frequently asked questions
Practical answers before your notary appointment.
These answers cover the questions clients ask most often. For advice about a document’s legal meaning or required certificate, contact the organization that issued it or a licensed attorney.
Is there a mobile notary near me in Los Alamitos?
California Local Notary Service is based in Los Alamitos and comes to your home, office, hospital or care facility by appointment. We’ve served clients since 2004; call 714-224-1822.
Do you serve Seal Beach, Cypress, Long Beach and the rest of Orange County?
Yes, we provide mobile notary appointments in Seal Beach, Cypress, Long Beach and throughout Orange County. To request an appointment at your location, call 714-224-1822.
Can you notarize trusts, wills and other estate planning documents?
We provide mobile notarization for trusts and other estate planning documents. For a will or questions about which notarization is required, ask your attorney or document preparer before the appointment. A notary cannot give legal advice or decide what type of notarization a document needs.
Are you a loan signing agent?
Yes, California Local Notary Service provides mobile loan signing appointments across Orange County and Los Angeles. We meet borrowers at home, an office or another agreed location; call 714-224-1822.
What are your hours and how do I book?
Our hours are 8 AM–7 PM daily by appointment. Use the appointment request form or call 714-224-1822 to request availability and a quote. Your appointment is confirmed after we agree on the time, location, preparation requirements and price.
Booking & availability
Where are you based, and can I walk in?
Our home office is in Los Alamitos, CA 90720, near Joint Forces Training Base. Office visits are by confirmed appointment only. We share the exact address privately after reviewing your request and confirming the appointment. We also travel throughout Orange County, Los Angeles, and the Inland Empire. Office visits have no mobile travel charge.
Is an online request a confirmed appointment?
No. A form submission or text starts an availability and quote request. Your appointment is confirmed only after we agree on the time, location, preparation requirements, and price.
What does a mobile notary do?
A mobile notary travels to an agreed location to perform the requested notarial act. The notary verifies identity, willingness, and the signing requirements for that act; a notary does not give legal advice or explain the legal meaning of a document.
Do you offer same-day or after-hours appointments?
Availability depends on the date, time, location, and appointment needs. Last-minute, evening, weekend, and holiday requests begin at a disclosed $75 additional charge when available.
Fees & quotes
How much is one notarized signature?
A California acknowledgment, jurat, oath, or proof is $15 per notarial act or signature requiring notarization. Travel and any appointment-specific charges are separate and confirmed before booking.
How is a mobile appointment price determined?
The final quote combines state-regulated notarial acts with the actual appointment logistics: city, travel distance and time, requested timing, printing, scanbacks, courier/return work, parking, tolls, and facility access. Mobile travel/service fees are based on distance and calculated when your appointment is confirmed.
What do loan signing appointments start at?
Seller/cash packages and HELOC or second-mortgage packages begin at $225, refinances at $275, purchases at $300, and reverse mortgages at $350. The actual package, delivery, scanback, return, location, and timing determine the confirmed quote.
Documents & preparation
What should I bring to my appointment?
Bring the complete document, acceptable government-issued photo identification, and any required witnesses. Every signer must personally appear.
Can I sign before the notary arrives?
For a jurat, you must sign in the notary’s presence and take an oath or affirmation. An acknowledgment may cover a document already signed, but you must personally appear and acknowledge signing it. If you are unsure which act is needed, ask the document recipient or preparer before the appointment.
What is the difference between an acknowledgment and a jurat?
They are different notarial acts. An acknowledgment confirms a signer personally appeared, was identified, and acknowledged signing; a jurat also requires the signer to sign in the notary’s presence and take an oath or affirmation. The attorney, lender, agency, or document preparer must tell you which certificate is required. A notary cannot choose it for you.
Can you tell me which notarized document or certificate I need?
We can explain appointment logistics and the difference between common notarial acts, but we cannot choose a document or notarial certificate for you. Ask the receiving organization, attorney, lender, title or escrow office, agency, or document preparer. See the Notary Document Guide for a plain-language overview.
Can you certify a copy?
California notaries may certify copies only in limited circumstances, such as certain powers of attorney. Ask what you need certified before booking.
Can you provide legal advice or prepare documents?
No. A notary public is not an attorney and cannot give legal advice, recommend a document, or interpret legal rights.
Loan, hospital & delivery services
I work for an escrow or title office. What information do you need for a signing?
Send borrower names, the city or agreed signing location, signing window, package type, document-delivery method, print and scanback instructions, return instructions, and the best contact for a last-minute question. California Local Notary Service is approved for the listed title and escrow companies in California and Washington and has coordinated signings since 2004.
Can you handle print, scanback, and return instructions for a loan signing?
Yes. Include the package-delivery method, print requirements, scanback instructions, return label or carrier instructions, and the correct contact for any last-minute issue. These logistics are confirmed before the appointment is accepted.
Can you meet at a hospital or senior-care community?
Yes, when facility access and notarial requirements can be confirmed. Hospital and senior-care appointments begin at $125 before the required $15-per-act notarial fees and distance-based mobile travel/service fees calculated when the appointment is confirmed.
Can you record a deed or deliver completed documents?
We can transport completed documents to a recorder, agency, carrier, or designated recipient. Recording or agency-document courier begins at $175 plus agency fees. We do not prepare legal filings or advise on what to record.

The notary essentials behind these answers.
Four essentials for a smooth appointment. Tap a topic for details.
Identity & personal appearance
Every signer must be personally present with acceptable identification. We do not notarize an absent person’s signature.
Willingness & awareness
We speak directly with the signer and confirm that the person appears willing, alert, and able to participate—especially important in hospital and senior-care settings.
Prepared documents
Bring the complete document and confirm the required certificate and any witnesses with the attorney, lender, agency, or document preparer before the appointment.
Privacy & professional boundaries
Text appointment details, not photos of IDs or sensitive documents. We handle notarial and logistical questions; document selection and legal-effect questions belong with the responsible professional.
If a required appointment condition cannot be confirmed, we will explain what is missing and may need to reschedule. That protects the signer, the document, and the transaction.
